2011: Review

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2011 was a great year for you, and that 2012 will be even better :) Here's a quick review of my 2011, with some of my favorite pictures of the year.

USRH Weekend

I spent most of last weekend doing things with USRH. Saturday was Fall Fest on the Fox, and I was part of the USRH Dragon Boat team.

Friday
Friday was the most boring part of the weekend. I went to classes, talked to my friends about the season premiere of Glee, and played some Magic. I also got ready for Dragon Boats!

I figured that since we were supposed to meet in the office at 7:15am, it would be better to pack the night before, so I didn't forget anything too important. So of course I packed everything into my USRH bag: snacks, sweat for when we weren't in the boat, my camera, team shirt. I still forgot to pack a towel though, which in hindsight probably would have been a good idea.

Saturday
Dragon Boats! It was really cold in the morning, which kinda made me wish I hadn't signed up for it. It did get warmer as the day went on though, so it wasn't too bad.

Team USRH, war paint and all. We ended up doing pretty well: we moved up to division C from division D (which I believe is a first for any ResLife team), and ended up placing 7th out of 12 in that division. After we were finished, my parents took Jon and I out for dinner, which was amazing since we were both starving.

Sunday
Since so much of my time on Saturday was spent off campus, I didn't get any of my work done. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone, and go fill my office hours while I did my homework. Committee chairs don't get their own desks, so I usually pirate Kristen's, since even when she's there she doesn't use it.

I believe this is either her mascot, or USRH's. I'm not entirely clear on it, but I think it's hilarious.

Monday
Ok, so this is definitely not part of the weekend, but it was just as exciting, because GUESS WHAT just came out on Netflix?!!

That's right, the Princess and the Frog. I know it's a kid's movie, but I think it's wicked cool that Disney is trying to make more traditionally animated movies. I think I heard the plan was to do one every year or every other year. Plus, the directors for it also did the Little Mermaid and Aladdin, both of which any kid will tell you are awesome.

Bonus trivia: the Little Mermaid was released in November 1989, just a few months after I was born. Weird, huh?

A Week of Updates

Ok, so I'm really behind. Sorry. Moving out of the dorms and back home and keeping Jon entertained while he stays here for a few days has been keeping me kinda busy. But now we've started a Unit-athon, which is giving me some time to sit down and update.

Thursday
Almost the last day of school. Just one presentation left, and then we get to stuff all of mine and Jon's things into the car. Which will not be pleasant. Anyway, at dinner, my friend Netty found the world's largest banana. He was very excited.

And then he peeled it, and it broke because it was too heavy or something. He was much less excited.

Friday
Last day of interim AND class got out almost an hour early. Thank god. I don't think I could have stood another 20 minutes even. I was pulling my hair out. So while I waited to meet my friends for lunch, I finished up my packing and piled everything on the extra bed.

Yeah. Like I said, we would have to stuff the car. Sadly, I didn't get a picture of that mess.

Saturday
Unfortunately, there was no sleeping in on the first day of summer break. Instead, everyone was up early so we could go to Chicago. Sunday was the Lincoln Park Zoo run, so we were staying at some relative's the night before. It was extra fun because of the reason for leaving so early:

My little cousins had a t-ball game. It was really cute. There was even a cheering section!

:)

Sunday
Sunday we were up early again for the run. Mom and I ran the 5K, Dad ran the 10K, Uncle Joe watched, and everyone else slept. Well, the twins were probably bouncing all over the house with Aunt Pat. Once we got back, we went adventuring to a nice outdoor/ open air mall type thing, where Jon found some koi.

They were pretty cool. Kind of creepy though because they were so big and fish are weird. Also pretty with all of the bright colors.

Monday
Sophie had a Happy Meal for lunch. She spent the rest of the day creeping on everyone with her new friend.

He has quite the unique laugh...

Wednesday
No Tuesday post, since most of Tuesday was spent doing this:

He's trying to sell his Magic cards, so we've been sorting through them and organizing stuff. It's been ridiculous, but I think we're basically done now. Which is pretty much awesome, since I don't think I can keep staring at cards all day.

Now that I'm kind of back on track and a little more organized, I'll work on updating more regularly again :)

C-c-c-c-combo!

Tuesday
These little caterpillar guys are EVERYWHERE right now. They're kinda cute, in a weird, fuzzy sort of way.

At least, they are right now. Give it a few more days and I'll probably be creeped out by how many of them there are...

Wednesday
Perry the Platypus!

One of my favorite gifts ever, my sister B made him for me for Christmas last year. Of course, I had to name him Perry after Phineas and Ferb's pet. He makes sure evil stays away from my stuff while I'm out, and keeps nightmares away when I'm asleep :)

Thursday
Because nobody seems to know what real people look like anymore, I decided to be daring and try a completely makeup free, untouched picture today:

It feels weird, but kinda cool.

Combination weekend

The pictures for this weekend were going to be two separate parts, but I was out late last night so I figured I might as well combine them today. So, here we go:

As part of the Earth Day activities on campus, a bunch of random things were taken and made into statues on one of the lawns.
Part one, Saturday's picture, was this big metal bird. I think they used different chair legs and such to make him.

The second part, today's pictures, were the big island construct they made from everything from recycling bins to file cabinets, to more chairs.

I also got a close up of one of the littler pieces on the island. I really liked these little orange flowers :)

Weekend update

Found my camera cord! I left it on my desk. So here's what happened this weekend:

Saturday
I babysat my little cousin, who loves to walk around in big people shoes. He really seemed to like my black and white checked chucks. We probably spent a good 20 minutes walking around with them. Here's the little shoe thief just as he was putting my shoes on:

Sunday
Sunday I spend the morning/early afternoon at home before coming back up to school. I didn't notice when I got home Saturday night, but when I woke up Sunday morning, I saw this little guy sitting on my nightstand:

Now he's sitting on my dresser keeping an eye on my stuff while I'm at school. lol
