It all ends July 15th

Two weeks from today, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II comes out! And by this time in two weeks, I'll already have seen it. Can't wait!

How 'bout those Packers?

Yesterday
Need I even mention that as a Wisconsin native, I was RIDICULOUSLY excited for the Super Bowl yesterday, and even MORE RIDICULOUSLY EXCITED that WE WON(!!!!!!!)? Yeah, I really do need to mention it. Because I am a Wisconsin native, and we DID win the Super Bowl.

Yeah. They went there. Anyway, no pictures from the game, because I wasn't there and I was too busy yelling at the TV to remember I had a camera.

Saturday
My sister Sophie turned 20! Which is not why we won the Super Bowl, despite her wishing for it (we won cause we're just that awesome!).

WURHA, one of the conferences that USRH goes to, is quickly approaching, and in order to lower the delegate cost, we're having a grilled cheese sale. Apparently they have a history of being quite successful. Of course, to have a grilled cheese sale, we needed to stock up on some key ingredients.

The people in line behind us weren't thrilled, to say the least. It probably didn't help that we were doing our shopping the day before the Super Bowl, when absolutely everyone was stocking up on snacks.

Friday
I should know by now that printing things in the USRH office is probably a bad idea. We have to buy our own paper, and of course we tend to use white for important/official things, or we run out. Which means that we usually have some kind of odd color in the printer.

And then you show up to class (with a SWEET Batman folder) and your notes look like that. Fun!

Thursday
Things have been pretty chilly in the Midwest (everywhere?) lately, as you may have heard. So after having classes cancelled on Wednesday, you would think we'd have a ton of snow, right?

Well, we did, but that was there before. Apparently most of the blizzard hit further South than Oshkosh. I've been staring out at this for what seems like forever now.

Wednesday
Regardless of the lack of promised snow, I don't think there was a single college student who wasn't excited to wake up to this email:

blah blah blah, State of Emergency, Chancellor Wells has decided to cancel all classes?!! Awesome!

Tuesday
Remember the Tome from last semester? I was so excited to get rid of it, right up until I saw the textbook for my Milton class.

According to my professor, the publishers refer to this as "the Brick." Oh, the joys of being an English major. Really though- my friend Kristin tells me that this would be considered small for an accounting textbook.

Monday
First day of Spring Semester 2011! And nothing will make you wish you had picked another major more than seeing this:

That's right. I have so many books this semester that they came in a cardboard tub. All 18 of them. The fact that they fit (quite nicely, even) on my bookshelf is a marvel.

Sunday
Time to get back to school, after finishing 6 weeks of winter break. I think I would have gone crazy if I hadn't taken that interim class. Going back to school isn't entirely bad, though- we stopped at my relative's house and got in some W time!

Dad was teaching him how to show off his muscles. Looks like the gun show is in town!

Ok, I'm behind again

Here's the thing. We're getting dangerously close to Thanksgiving break. Which means that everybody and their mother is just piling the homework on. I didn't take pictures this weekend. Why? Because I was either sleeping or glued to The Tome. Remember that? It's still terrible. Here's the rest of last week:

Monday
Somehow, I naively, thought that I'd have time to do fun things this week, so I downloaded Plants vs. Zombies for my iPod.

Trust me when I say, it's pretty awesome. Who doesn't like plants that shoot peas at zombies and sunflowers that pop out little suns?

Tuesday
My roommate went home the same weekend I did. She came back with this:

If you think it's something you could get used to, or that after awhile it gets less creepy, you're wrong. Very, very wrong. Those eyes are so big that no matter where you are in the room, it's looking at you. And giving you one creeptastic smile.

Wednesday
I had a math test! (I got an 80!) It was also a really nice day out. However, this is Wisconsin, so I'm expecting snow any minute here.

I figured that this would be the last time I'm going to see green grass for a loooooooooooong time.

Thursday
It was a very sad day for Jon. He decided that, since he recently bought a computer (and they have cheaper and better games), and that he rarely uses his xbox anymore, that he would sell it.

Still, it was pretty sad to pack it up. He feels better that it's going to a good home- our friend's roommate NEEDED it so she could play Assassin's Creed. I don't get it, but whatever. Not a video game person.

Friday
This counted as the weekend, which I already explained was not photographed due to my being stuck with The Tome.

So much reading!

Updates are slow again, sorry. Foundations of Literary Criticism require a ton of reading. Who would have guessed? Anyway, here's what's been going on in Oshkosh...

Saturday
At least once a week, I feel like a stereotypical old person. Usually it has something to do with Wheel of Fortune being on right before Glee, so I usually catch the end of it while I'm waiting to get my Gleek on. Last week, however, it happened twice. Why? Check this out:

Oh yes. I was playing bingo. Any idea what a $100 Reeve Union gift card can buy? Textbooks. It was far too enticing an offer to pass up. I had wanted to get an action shot while we were playing, but it's really too dark in the Underground. It was too bad, too, because it seemed like everyone at my table except for me won something. Nothing as epic as the gift card or tv, though.

Sunday
Sunday was a homework day. It's nice because it's also the same day that office hours reset for the week, so I usually have them all covered within the first day. Sadly, since I'm only a committee chair, I don't get my own desk. I usually end up stealing Kristen's, since she never uses hers.

If you noticed the Geico money stack picture above her desk, you might have guessed that Kristen is our much put-upon treasurer. (Seriously. Intercampus mail keeps losing our money.) I'm not sure what I was doing at this point, other than taking a break. Probably working on my Langston Hughes essay. Most of your probably read his short story, Thank You Ma'am, at some point in middle or high school.

Monday
Monday was an awesome day of awesomeness. Why? Because we got our first math test back.

85/100! A solid B! I've struggled with math pretty much for forever, so this was really exciting and encouraging. I actually have the test hanging on my fridge right now, but will probably bring it home and stick it on the fridge there when I go back next weekend.

Tuesday
I saw something crazy and ridiculous but very practical, but I didn't have my camera and forgot to go back later. I'll go back and get a picture of it tomorrow for you, in addition to tomorrow's picture.

Wednesday
I've been burning through the Hunger Games books. I loved the first one, and I could hardly put the second one down to eat, let alone go to class. But it left off on a HUGE cliffhanger, which drove me crazy since I don't have the third. Luckily, my lovely friend Hannah asked me if I wanted to catch up over coffee this afternoon, and sprang this surprise on me:

She's loaning me her copy! Yay! Now if you don't hear from me for a few days, it might not be because of class. It might be because I've curled up in a nice comfy chair with this new friend :) or because having two lit. classes is turning me into a paper writing slave. Either/or.

Apparently I forgot to title this entry the first time around...

Tuesday
Jon had to do some laundry on Tuesday, so we decided to play Magic in the basement while his clothes were in. Sadly, we were stuck there a lot longer than planned.

Indeed. Two of our four washing machines are out of order. And the other two were full when we got there. At least the room was warm and clean smelling?

Wednesday
I had my first geology lab this morning. Which meant that a lot of my time yesterday was spent studying minerals and how to identify them. I figured it would be easiest to make a spreadsheet. (Also, I happen to LOVE Numbers. It's such a great way to organize things!)

The first four are fairly distinct from the others, which makes then easy to remember. The next two are also very distinct from the rest, but are really similar to each other. Feldspars are kind of middle ground, and again, similar to each other. Figuring out the rest of them was the difficult part.

Thursday
I've finally started to read the Hunger Games, which came highly recommended to me from a couple of different people. It's the first book of a fairly new series which is apparently really starting to take off.

From what I've heard/ read so far, it reminds me a lot of Shirley Jackson's Lottery. Interesting and creepy. We'll see how it goes.

Random things

Sunday
Ok, I admit I took this picture last minute and when Sunday was almost over and I hadn't yet taken a picture. Anyway...

Meet Tattoo, the blank white sock monkey. Like most of the animals in my room, my sister Brenna made him for me. Eventually I'll get around to decorating him, at which point the name will fit better. Until then, consider this a "before" picture.

Monday
Let me tell you about Mondays. They're not fun. I have class from 9:10-10:10, 10:20-11:20, and 12:40-1:40. And really, none of that would be too bad, IF I didn't also have Foundations of Literary Criticism from 3:00-6:00. It's only slightly more interesting than it sounds. Check this out:

This is ONE of the three texts I have for this class. We semi-affectionately refer to it as "The Tome." In case you're wondering, it's open to page 702. And it's what, MAYBE a third of the way through the book? Yeah, this class rocks.

Tuesday
I only have one word: ew.

Not the most flattering picture, is it? But Jon thought it would be funny to make me wear his hat around. He REALLY laughed when he put it on backwards. Apparently I'm not much of a hat person.

Wednesday
Today I took a walk downtown with Jon, ad it was lovely. Perfect weather for a nice walk, and the leaves are starting to change colors, so it was quite pretty.

I really do love the fall. It's probably my favorite season. I love the food and the clothes and everything :)

Packing

I'll be moving back to campus in a mere three days. Naturally, this is both very exciting and dreadful. Where did the summer go?!! I have no idea, personally. It seems like it just zoomed by! Anyway, today was a preparation day for move in and life on campus. I went shopping with my mom and B to get the necessary school supplies and other miscellaneous things I needed, then started to organize all of the things that are coming with me.

Like my clothes. I think I have too many. That looks like a lot. How I manage to fit that all into a tiny dorm closet and dresser is probably bordering on miraculous.

Snacks are also very important. How else are you supposed to stay fueled during a late-night studying session the night before a test? Everything on campus is closed by 10.

Last but not least, a small selection of non-nook, non-required books. I mean, how am I expected to live without my beloved collection of Shakespeare? What if I need to prove to someone that it was not Hamlet, but Polonius, who uttered the well known, "to thine own self be true," quote? (Clueless, anyone?)

I heart nook

Just to clarify, I LOVE my Nook! It's absolutely wonderful. I mention this again because some of my relatives gave me Barnes and Noble gift cards (some of the best gifts ever, btw) for my birthday, so I downloaded some books yesterday. Also, I bought a cover for it, and it's cool!

There are 46 quotes on the cover (front and back). Right now, I can name the source of 22 of them. Eventually, of course, I hope to be able to name all of them :)

New book!

This weekend was lovely. The weather finally started to warm up a little, I hung out with my friends, got to sleep in, and my family came to visit me yesterday.

Saturday
Saturday was a pretty lazy day- I slept in, got lunch with my friends, and we played some Magic. The evening was kinda boring, cause most of my friends went out, and I'm quite 21 yet. It was ok, though. I finally caught up on Diggnation, and I rediscovered that I absolutely love this tea:

Sunday

Sunday, of course, meant more sleeping in. Or, would have, but my parents called at 10 and told me that they were going to come up to visit. Which is a fair trade. B came with them, and brought me a sweet surprise:

I loved the Percy Jackson books, so I was really excited to find out that the author was writing a new series based on Egyptian mythology, as it's my personal favorite. It's really very good- I read almost the entire thing last night.

Hulking out

This book. It causes such rage.

Firstly because it's Spanish, and Spanish and I did not get along while I was taking those classes. But it mostly fills me with rage because when I tried to sell it back yesterday, the TROLL working a textbook buybacks wouldn't take it. This book cost $120. Selling it back would have got me an entire $21. Which, really, is enough right there to be upsetting. However, this is not why I'm hulking out. No. I'm hulking out because of the sad, pathetic reason she refused to take my book. She went through the entire book page by page, not even just flipping though, but page by page, and found SEVEN PAGES that I had inked on. Please keep in mind that these are USED textbook buybacks, and I have bought used books from campus in far worse condition. At least my scribbles are useful- not random doodles or something. ugh. It makes me want to pull my hair out.
